In theory, yes, that's one of its main uses. It helps relax the anal sphincter, easing intercourse.
The only thing I can attest to firsthand is that it makes you *crave* bottoming like nothing else.
There are other things to help anal, like creams with benzocaine. It's supposed to numb the area, but IMHO, that doesn't really help as it only reduces sensation to the surface membrane, and it can burn if it gets into the urethra/meatus.
Practice makes perfect, and the best advice I have is to get yourself a toy and get accustomed to the sensation. But, not even an anatomically correct toy feels quite the same.
