I am starting my own line of poppers. I am looking to connect with home brewers and industry folk alike to talk, make connections, and exchange ideas. I don't know what I don't know yet. If you know something I don't and you're willing to share, reach out.

Hello Wa, Or here. I'd be happy to help however I can.
First I'd like you to share a little about your process and product, any walls you've run up against, and maybe a little about this business plan. Is this going to be like a boutique local beer? For your friends? Ya gonna go big time?
The Doctor.

OMG. I'm a huge jackass, I just take it for granted that it's a known quantity to the people around me. Allow me to rephrase;
Welcome. I'm a home brewer myself. There's a lot of valuable information here from some very knowledgeable people. I'm happy to point you to the appropriate threads, and discuss anything you'd like, but I'm also curious about what you specifically suspect you don't know, what you already know, what you think of your own product, and what you might want assistance with. Anything you want. Just say the word.
Sincerely,
The Doctor.

White label poppers are everywhere! all hyped up and with dumbass names. The French do them and fill the bottles with is0 amyl, and hexyl. "Suck My Dick" the best, strongest, popper ever for deepthroaters! "Lick My Ass" special formula designed for rimmers...bla bla bla for if you make a quality artisanal product that is different. is0 amyl is NOT amyl, and hexyl is NOT Butyl. Good Luck with that. what formula do you make?
Raging Asperger's victim...really? i am kinda on the spectrum somewhere myself ha...where depends on what goes down...like two days ago i was totally freaking out and smashing cups and shouting and shit, but today i am doing good/ learn to live with it...i sometime wanna start singing on public transport....diagnosis?

Indeed, Sir! I know exactly what you refer to! I have the very same urge!
A subconscious urge that rises from the deepest recesses of the mind like the quasi-explosive eruption of Mount Vesuvius, though without the volcanic lava and in the more subtle form of a truly righteous desire to sing. Yes, Sir, sing! On public transport, in a bus crammed with the disgusting, the disillusioned, and the downtrodden flotsam of this digital age. It requires an act of what the ancients referred to as ‘musica metaphysica audacissima,’ or in the simpler tongues, the ‘audacious metaphysical music of the soul!’ One must call upon the unseen energies—the ethereal vibrations that pulse through the universe like unseen rays of an undiscovered star. The grandiosely ineffable resonance that can only be tapped into when surrounded by the grim faces of traveling riffraff, none of whom will ever understand this deep, cosmic desire of ours. Yet, I shall be undeterred, for I am simply prius in fortunato mensa (first in the fortunate table) when I deliver such a gift to the world.
My repertoire includes:
Where Do You Go To My Lovely? by Peter Sarstedt
Escape (The Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes
Purcell – ‘Dildo’s Lament’ (Dildo and Aenas)
Rossini – ‘Largo al rectotum’ (The Barber of Seville)
I was briefly detained following an incident with an elderly lady on N65, and the driver on N91 ejaculated me before Trafalgar Square. Bah! philistines, if travelers are inclined to deposit their wherewithal in my sunbonnet, then what business is it of a mere bus driver. Outrageous. Drive your bus! Those of us blessed with higher talents should not be bothered by your impertinence.

Dr. Wang and others -
Thanks for the welcome! I can tell I am going to like it here.
To share a bit more: I have decided I want to get into the business of poppers. I'm doing this with experience in business and a deep love for poppers, but I have yet to be involved in making a batch.
I have a functional knowledge of chemistry (former high school science teacher). Hopefully that means that I am capable of learning what I need to learn.
My research to this point suggests that there are two possible business models. I can find somebody who has a working lab/brew setup and collaborate on a mixture. We can build a business arrangement and grow the operation from there. The other path is that I can start my own production from scratch. There are probably hybrid models, and third and fourth models that I'm not even aware of.
So that's where I am. I've got some big dreams, a deep love for the product and the people who use it, some business experience and some cash in the bank. It seems that the production of the product is the biggest gap right now.
- I would be interested in chatting with any home brewers who have considered expanding their operation.
- I would love an opportunity to do a "ride along" with somebody who is brewing a batch. I live in Washington state, however I have no problem getting on a plane for the right opportunity to observe somebody working and get some first hand experience.
- I would be delighted to chat with others who are currently working in the industry, meaning people who are actively selling their poppers. I have so many questions about the business end and distribution channels.
Thanks for the warm welcome!

Wapopperbator: Thank you for informing this Forum of your serious desire and intention to start a business to manufacture a top-quality popper product / formula, which I assume will be real Amyl Nitrite.
The adult popper user community is desperately in need of a business that is ethically committed to producing and selling real Amyl Nitrite, since all - or most - of the current popper products from US and European vendors are very weak and basically worthless, and do not provide the user with any significant pro-sexual effects to enhance sexual enjoyment.
Please keep us informed of your progress, and I wish you the best of luck!

Excellent, thank you for sharing Wapopperbator. It's an ambitious plan, but it sounds like you're up to the task. There are at least one or two on this forum who produce and sell in small batches. If I were to try to advise you on this I'd just be talking out of my butt, only the observation that sales generates it's share of drama necessitating good customer relations. But if you're in it for the love of the product and the community, then you can approach that with Zen. I would *love* for someone in the industry to chime in with their secrets.
As you know, it's a straightforward reaction with 3 ingredients, but it entails *far* more than just that. You should start whipping up batches right away and trying them out to get a feel for it. If you have a focus group behind you, all the better. Who's going to turn that job down?
There's a wealth of information in this thread from knowledgeable people like The Professor and Nitritespecialist -
https://poppersguide.com/forum/14220
I was sort of new when I first interacted, but have added a bit at the end.
I've made alkyl nitrites from 8 different alcohols, and the only one which even ranks as worthwhile is from what I am now almost certain is 3-Methyl-1-butanol. However, what I'm using was hydrolyzed from an amyl acetate. It's producing a killer product, but the 3-Methyl-1-butanol I bought from Ukraine smells the same (but weaker), and doesn't produce the same product. I believe it may be an issue of purity or side product contaminates/residual acids, aldehydes, or peroxides which must be removed.
The consensus is that the alcohol *must* be purified no matter what grade you buy to produce a stable product, and you must minimize the water.
My product is extremely potent for about 4 days when stored in the freezer, 3 days at room temp. I haven't used commercial product before, but I am told what I'm making *should* beat it. I have a personal theory about the 4 days being the off gassing of the most volatile portion, as you can see the vapors shimmer thickly in the air, but it could just be very rapid decomposition, despite thorough drying. I must obtain a good bottle of commercial product for comparison. The 3-Methyl-1-butanol I hydrolyzed from acetate has a substantial impurity which I believe is sodium acetate from the hydrolysis, as I only performed a simple distillation. I just emptied the bottle, and it has clusters of needle crystals on the walls which won't melt at room temp. I'm due to hydrolyze another batch, and I'll note whether fractional distillation makes a difference.
I've invested a lot in this project, so at some point, probably when the weather turns and I can work outside, I am going to do purification and fractional distillation under vacuum of all these alcohols and a synthesis comparison with ice bath vs dry ice, and rate the final products and post a full guide/video.
I'm also going to try vacuum distilling the final product to see what effect that has on stability and strength. "Triple distilled" is one of the marketing terms floating out there, and it should entail the safe transport and purification of the most volatile fraction into the final product.
I'm also going to include a section on reprocessing old product, which I have done to some positive effect, and which AI seems to believe may be worthwhile too.
But at this point, if I have only one thing to offer aside from purify purify purify, it's that esterification is best done with 40% sulfuric acid instead of HCL. I believe aside from purity, water and its resulting side reactions are the main killer, and I've never had the off smells or acidic/burning vapors which need to be washed out with bicarbonate when using H2SO4 that I did with even very concentrated fuming HCL (like *maximum* concentration at -20). It simplifies separation too, as the reacted salt remains behind as a thick slurry. For the writeup, I might even try using nitrosylsulfuric acid like NurdRage recently did, further minimizing water and obviating the need for sodium nitrite, which is getting more difficult to obtain in the US.
Who knows, maybe we can swap product some time. It would be a short trip in the mail. I'm quite satisfied with my product, however short-lived, but I have nothing to compare it to.
In that vein, may I ask what your (or anyone else's here) favorite OTC product is? I'm negligent in having nothing to compare my own stuff to.

King of All Hobbies
Some days it's Asperger's, some days it's Borderline Personality Disorder.
My most successful and fulfilling relationship was with a boy who was stone-cold deaf.
I was immune from the consequences of my own mouth moving.
I've started singing while I'm cumming, with my head in outer space, high on my own product. That's not like me at all.
If you want to sing on the bus, sing your heart out.

Guttrunks
"musica metaphysica audacissima"
I quite like that.
"surrounded by the grim faces of traveling riffraff"
That's why you should get yourself electrified personal transport. There's nothing quite like silently floating by at 75kph, weaving past cars like they're parked, bouncing the suspension up and down while you sing along to your favorite song. Night rides are the best. The world is silent, and the whole thing belongs to you. It's as close as you'll come to actual transcendental meditation-style instantaneous bilocation.

Oh yea, King of All Hobbies.
My diagnosis? You're like the rest of us, and in good company.
This is not to say that makes it any easier. But at least there's comfort in being in an elite tier.

This is all so helpful! Thank you. I've got to say that OpenAI has been my tutor, collaborator, and brainstorm buddy this whole way.
Me and chatty are halfway through developing a halfway reasonable QA protocol using over the counter sensors and devices that may yield some useful data in the future. If it turns out to be useful data, I will bring it back to the forum.
If you're interested in participating in my market research survey, it can be found here:

Include your email in the survey if you want to be contacted for further research. There WILL be product beta testing...who doesn't love that!

Nice. Glad to be of assistance. I see AI's been a help to us both.
'counter sensors and devices'- my curiosity is piqued. I shall wait until it is revealed how this works.

Seeming how it is all theoretical at this point, I'll spare you the details. It is the chemical equivalent of `studying the sun by observing its shadow` .
A GC-MS is nowhere in my future, so I am trying to think of practical and innovative ways to know what is going up my nose and into my bloodstream.
More importantly, I am trying to think of practical and innovative ways to be sure that what is going up the nose and into the bloodstream of my paying customers is worth their money. I don't want to chase new customers for the next ten years. I hope to build a base of stable, loyal buyers who appreciate what I am brewing.

I might have to go back to home‐brew. Unless some of the producers can move off-shore.
