I picked up a bottle of Video Head Cleaner from my very reliable source yesterday. When I opened it, it began bubbling and overflowing over the top. Any idea what might have happened?
Thanks!

Sounds like a question for Poon or Dr Wang; does it contain one of them pellets, Ta0?

No pellet, but then again, is the pellet just for absorbing water?

Video head cleaner and poppers are NOT the same thing.

Ha...not many folks buying "video head cleaner" in 2025 for cleaning videos, so why do you see it in bookstores?? it is a way of selling poppers, Purchaser...solvent, video head cleaner, leather cleaner and all that.

CaCO3 would start bubbling I guess...i think it's that, no a problem. is the popper usable? but hey, you said no pellet, so actually f**k knows what it is!

If you are referring to VHCleaner from Chicago, they don't use pellets. They use that granular stuff. Looks like sand.

Years ago, 'VCR head cleaner' was the euphemism one used to be discreet, or in places where legality was an issue. I think it's cute there's actually a product called "head cleaner".
Some formulations have chloroethane, an anesthetic party drug known as "Lança-Perfume" popular in Brazil, sometimes also containing ether and chloroform. It has a boiling point of 54F, so that's a remote possibility.
It may also be the result of decomposition. Were the fumes colored, or did you smell them? I made tert-amyl nitrite once and it decomposed when I tried to wash it, it got fizzy and emitted brown nitrogen oxide fumes.
There are formulas with other low boiling solvents. The amyl experience is close enough to huffing to begin with. I guess you could ask your supplier if anyone else has seen this.
Beyond that, I have no idea :-/
