@Canukie...make sure you melt the SN until it bubbles away any O2. Try it both ways...prove to yourself that it does make a difference.

Once the SN has degraded, every brew becomes a moving target, impossible to get consistency.

@Canukie....if you melt SN, try different melting times. I found that waiting just a few minutes past the melt point was sufficient. When I delayed the cool down longer, I got a product that didn't last as long. A good bottle that's going to last will give off gas upon opening for awhile after being made. Perhaps days after it's made, every time it's opened, gas can be heard escaping. This is a sign it's volatile and not dead.
