I ordered some bottles from poppers aromas eu in france.

Total cost was approx 140 euros

The tracking now says that it is being held by Parcelforce until customs duty is paid and a letter is on the way explaining how to pay.

I thought if the value was under £135 no duty was applicable.

Has anyone else had this?

Anyone know what the duty hs code is for this product so I can see how much they be going to ask for?

Welcome to the free world with no regulations.

It’s because we are no longer in the EU

It's got nothing to do the EU, nor is it Nigel's fault. It's the size of the order - 140 euros??? No wonder customs have poked their noses in.

Mr Don.
Of course this is because the Britons are free now. It is only question that the duty must be paid.

Rule Britannia! Britain rule the waves! French should pay the duty, end of.

I have ordered same value many times without any issue.

It’s about 15 bottles and is still less than what used to be the £135 limit with customs.

First time I’ve had this issue.

I’ve told it is because of post Brexit customs changes by HMRC.

Prior to Brexit they would not have imposed fees for the package but now all parcels arriving can be subject to tax charges if the seller has not pre paid them and has nothing to do with the value. It is now the import duty world we live in directly because of Brexit.

What does your package look like?

has not pre paid them

"Yus, my dear"....like what I said.

So it’s a relatively small brown parcel as I have had from them many times. With the customs documentation attached on the outside.

The charges I had to pay came to £50 and the breakdown had £5 import duty, £32 import VAT and £12 Parcelforce handling charge.

Import vat is the direct effect of brexit but £50 of additional fees for something that cost me £120 to buy is not sustainable for me any more.
