I am having good success with a new post processing method that I am using in conjunction with the German method, which adds the sodium nitrite solution to the alcohol/acid mixture.

This method involves TWO wash/dry cycles over a period of a few days. The first wash is done right after harvesting the crude nitrite, using baking soda/brine and then sodium carbonate/brine. Wash at least 3 to 4 times. Dry with mag sulfate and bottle with Kcarb/MS4. After waiting 24 to 48 hours, repeat. After the second wash/dry period, the popper should be much more aromatic and potent straight from the bottle and also have great odor and pleasant effects.

I suggest doing it right the first time (make sure the yield is nitrosated or else you're wasting your time (years in your case), washing once, post process over ms4 for a time, then storing over 1% w/v k-carb, and you'll have a nitrosated alkyl nitrite.

Remove a small amount for use to another bottle (or sippy cup or stck or whatever floats your boat) and the yield will stay nitrosated, or and active for about two months.

If that worked for me, I wouldn't be suggesting a new method. The point here is to have brewers test various methods and then choose for themselves which ways work best for them.

did not take long for Jerry Garcia and Dobby to go at it. First round goes to Dobby.

There are multiple ways to make any chemical compound. I have been searching for the single best way to make "poppers" (NAN), that I like, regardless of how someone else may interrupt their own poppers. Any method I suggest or have tried is merely that...a suggestion. It should be up to the individual home brewer to decide what method they prefer, hopefully after they have tried a number of ways.

I am not here to suggest that I am the "popper God" and it's my way or the highway. Not even close to my position. My suggestions are only for those who are NOT satisfied with their own home brew. If someone is satisfied and think their product is great, then by all means, keep doing what you are doing.

That said, I have had great success with my new methods...for instance this is the first time I have had two successive brews that have lasted at least 7 days with good odor and good effects with plenty of air exposure, with no need to pour off to protect the mother load. If it lasts 7 days with plenty of air exposure, it can be assumed that it would last much longer without any.

So....the second wash/dry cycle does cause loss of yield, but it results in a much longer lasting, improved odor and effects. This may be a way around distillation. Something is being removed during the second wash/dry cycle, 24-48 hours later that markedly improves odor, effects and longevity.

@More Popcorn Plz

I suppose you are talking about the interactions between NitriteSpecialist (aka PopperMaker, aka Ken Jones, aka Dobby and PopChef2 aka Jerry Garcia?

Spot on with Dobby, but I'm not JG.

I would reply to your scoring assesment that 10 years of failure digs a very deep hole.

Add to that 10 years of stubbornly trying the same thing over and over and , well, you know, "repeating the same steps over and over, hoping for a different outcome, is a definition of insanity"

Testet thiw method literary in a "what I have to lose.." thinking. Very quickly and without good preperation .
I was at 1.1: 1 :1.1 (Nano3: alc :hcl) ratio . Alc and hcl chiled and then mixed ,without any excess water. The diluted nano3 droped at high speed (3 drops/sec did NOT give any green colors or fumes) Weld remain at -10C. Cleaned 2 times right away and one more after 3 days.
It is really good .No odor , starts warm and soft ,kicking harder later and last much longer that other paches .

Pach lost his potency after 4 uses ...

Nitritespecialist said on Thu, 13 May 2021 at 02:26...

@Justchem.....mine have lasted 4 weeks at RT. One became active after I thought it was dead. Both smell good and give pleasant heart thumping effects.

I use the German method...adding the sodium nitrite solution last. I am using two wash/dry cycles....at least 24 hours apart.

I am using Sigma Aldrich's SN and TCI pentyl alcohol....Sunnyside muriatic.

I use MS4 and anhydrous potassium carbonate to dry. I use both baking soda and sodium carbonate to neutralize/wash.

I made a 20ml brew of NAN 5-16-2021, using German method PLUS second wash cycle 24 hours later.

Have tested and it's much improved. Odor is very nondescript and noncaustic. Effects are very potent and non weird. Fleeting as expected with zero hangover. Previously, the second wash has extended potency out to 3 or 4 weeks with plenty of air exposure and stored at room temp.

This brew is only 48 hours old...so I can't tell how long it will last, but so far, the "German method PLUS" is working well. The second wash cycle, 24 hours later, may be a way to circumvent distillation.

update:
I was wrong. Last pach didnt lose all of it potency. It was drop like 20% .But it stayed there for about 1 month! So it was really good !
I follow the same procedure but after washes with bicarbonate water- water-salted water I but it on carbonate+ Sodium sulfate and let them on steer bar for an hour . It cleaned it really good and quickly.

Man wish I could get some of that. I need a smart friend.
