Mixed isomers

Hi all,

Have been home brewing n-butyl nitrite for a bit over a year now and following the recommendations of others on the site am keen to try making some pentyl/amyl.

One of my local distributors offers 500ml high purity pentyl alcohol (mixed isomers) for a very good price, whereas n-pentyl from other suppliers is much pricier.

Anyone here have experience making mixed isomer pentyl poppers? Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

I will also be trying a pentyl-butyl mix to see if it hits differently. Will write up once I’ve given it a go.

I get my pentyl from TCI and it always seems good. It's one pentanol.

I bought my n-butyl alcohol from an Amazon dealer....came in metal container and I'm not having much luck with it overall. Don't know why exactly. It tends to produce a bitter smelling popper when it should be very sweet.

@Jacko....I have purchased isopentyl alcohol before....and it gave me a cough reflex. Once it smelled like a strong vinegar/dirty foot odor. The one pentanol I've been buying has never been like that.

So, I'm pleased to report that this worked out pretty nicely. Got 500ml of mixed isomers amyl alcohol delivered this week and made up a batch a couple of nights ago.

I used my own variation on the direct HCl addition method, with the SN, amyl alcohol, and pure water mechanically stirred and chilled overnight. I separately chilled the acid at the same time.

I dropped the acid into the stirred mixture slowly with a 3ml hand pipette. I have a nice little magnetic stirrer from AliExpress that I set to medium-low stir rate. Still had some NO2 gas come off the mix, which is difficult to avoid with this method, but got an excellent 25ml yield. Washed in sodium bicarbonate water then bottled with anhydrous magnesium sulfate.

The Mrs and I tried it yesterday, with very pleasant results. More clear headed and less 'buzzy' than the n-butyl I usually make, but very physical and sexy. It opened up her throat and ass in record time! She found it especially helpful for deep throating with minimal gagging.

The AN is pleasant smelling but not as sweet as the NBN. I'm thinking of trying a mixed batch next too see what I get, but will enjoy this first ;-)
