a YouTube video entitled "Making amyl nitrite" from a poster called Lumiray. It's a 2 year old video and I tried it twice with the same basic equipment and got about 35ml of seemingly very good product.

I am relatively new to poppers and have purchased Butyl from a US vendor and Amyl, Pentyl and Ulta Amyl from Twisted Beast. All were good but I was questioning what was in the bottles, and I'm a curious person so I'm working on this fun project. I have no prior chemistry experience

I've read other threads here that have way more information than I do, so I am reading everything I can to try and improve.

I say "seemingly good" because I am sick right now and haven't given the second batch a try. I sniffed a small amount and got nice effects. The first run I mistakenly doubled the formula by volumes, so it came out all messed up,

I have no new information to offer except this video, which I'm sure is not new at all. I'm wondering if anyone has anything to add that might help me improve.

I;m considering adding a small amount of dry ice to my salt/ice bath to lower the temps further without slushing or over freezing issues. I've never done this either

I tried it and nearly came by just watching a video and stroking my caged clit. Now, I know this recipe and process is nothing new but this is way stronger than the bottles I've purchased so far. long and drawn out, slower on the onset side. keeps going and growing into pure horny bliss is how I would describe it.

I will keep researching. enjoy yourselves

One thing I noticed is that the nitrate layer after the reaction was complete was crystal clear. then became cloudy on washing. It took 5 washes to get it clear again

there was very little visible gas during the reaction since I had a sealed system. only on opening the system did I get a small amount of gas that cleared very quickly. I took my time the second time

what is a better drying agent than Calcium Chloride?

anyway, lots of other, better info on other threads here. was hoping to revive interest in total noobs like myself from this starting perspective. I see that this has largely been done and explored as far as it can be here.

Carry on

Where did you get Sodium Nitrite?

chem supplier through my business.

Most people use anhydrous sodium sulfate or anhydrous magnesium sulfate.

Great work DDidler!
It goes to show that it doesn't take highly specialized expertise to DIY, and by all accounts, produces a better product. The biggest obstacle at this point is obtaining sodium nitrite.
Personally, whether I dry or not, my product goes from killer to average after a week, so I don't bother with a drying step, but I do store over freshly microwaved molecular sieves. If the raw product has an acidic smell which is sharp in the nose, I wash with sodium bicarbonate solution.
And to finally answer your question, potassium carbonate is said to be the best for storage, but I've only tried this once. I'm now informally pledged to abstinence :-)

Oh yes, I meant to ask- now that it's been a month, how do you find the strength of your product has held up? How do you store it?

It;;s aged less well than my Twisted Beast purchases which have lasted months in the fridge. I washed 4 times with sodium bicarbonate and dried with anhydrous calcium carbonate ad stored in the fridge as well. Over time it became acidic to the nose and less potent. I'm looking into distillation now.

It was very good while it lasted. One thing I think is that I used an excess of acid and the reaction completed with excess acid. washing did not get it all. I need to get a small amount of dry ice and add it to my ice bath to get it colder. working slower also. then washing with extra saturated bicarbonate mixture and try the potassium for drying.

lab equip seems to be relatively inexpensive nowadays.

I'm looking at an inexpensive vacuum distillation kit. the heating mantle is the most expensive part. There's not much info on distilling nitrites in detail so it's probably be trial and error for me, and not like I'm making it that often....
good thing about the kits is that they can be either short path, vacuum or regular water cooled type. or combo of all if I'm correct.

I find a relatively inexpensive rotovap apparatus for sale. I wonder if this would help things. Probably would sit for most of its life though
