The stock of water containing the salt is cooled to 2±2° C. and the 3 reagents are simultaneously added at this temperature over about 1 hour (exothermic reaction, cooling with brine to −12° C.).

Here is one patent that mentions brewing isoamyl nitrite at -12C....resulting purity of 98%.

Patent 20030149292A1

It mentions how too much contact with the acid can lead to degradation of the alkyl nitrite.

The same patent mentions making butyl nitrite....as follows

The stock of water containing the salt is cooled to 2±2° C. and the 3 reagents are simultaneously added at this temperature over about 1 hour (very exothermic reaction). The medium is maintained at this temperature for 5 minutes.

97-98% purity achieved using roughly 0C for butyl nitrite.

Again, parents aren't going to get you anywhere, a free course in chemistry from Khan Academy can do wonders.

Patents

I tried the patented method best I could, same ratios and temps and got a lot of heat/brown gas generated. Figured it's ruined...but heck it smells pretty good....It's NAN and smells fruity, sprite like. Not sure if this is the true odor of NAN.

The Professor claims he has the best method to make poppers....so be it. It really doesn't matter if nobody is selling good poppers OTC. Nothing reliably safe, consistent and effective.

OTC doesn't matter if an individual can prep his own for about 30 cents per milliliter

I would love to go back to Joe Miller's time.....when I could buy a good reliable, effective, fun popper virtually anywhere.

I tried my brews of NAN based on the patent. Pretty damn good!!! And I just neutralized with cold water...no soda....and then final rinse with cold brine.

Definitely has more of fruity/lemon Sprite like aromatic quality. Effects sniffing straight from a wide mouthed 10 ml bottle are good....nothing over the top...just a general feel good...with ass relax.

Ratios used based on patent:

7.7 mls of 5% brine starting fluid in mixer

14.8 grams SN into 22.2 mls water(40% solution)
21 mls one pentanol
22 mls 31.45% HCl

Add at same time all 3 reagents into 7.7mls cold brine
Used super cold brine bath.

I sprayed the flask with argon gas before I started mixing.

Used up the remainder of my TCI one pentanol. Not setup up to do the 3 addition funnels, but tried the best I could.

Product has good effects.....a bit fruity/sprite like again...clean, pleasant and alive.

Looking at your 'recipe' above is a good example of a few things.

Ken has, for years, been making what he calls 'micro-brews'.

In his mind, it reduces the waste of each failure so he can narrow down the best amounts.

In reality, small batches magnify errors; in measurement, in reaction speed, and in human interactions with the apparatus.

Micro 'brews' lead to frustration and a prolonged string of failures.

Second, Ken appears to have forgotten the molar requirements for the reaction, sand is back to making with LESS acid than required by the stoichiometry.

It's easy to remember, mostly, in that the formula asks for an equimolar amount of the ions involved.

When it comes to the HCL, one might asks themselves '1 mole of WHAT concentration? '

That's a very good question; critical in fact.

To provide the property amount of ions required, the HCL acid density is 12.1.

That's 37% concentration HCL.

The prep above is using 32% (for some reason asked at 31.45) and that's a very low amount of hydrogen ions, leading once again, to un-reacted alcohol.

Once again, Ken gives us all an example of how NOT to do it.

Thanks Ken

Mr Professor Know It All Cannot tell us what NAN should smell like. That's the only BIG question I have and he doesn't know.

Sounding quite desperate lately Ken? Is your spleen acting up on you?

This is kindergarten level taunting now.

Anonymous said on Wed, 1 Jun 2022 at 14:20...

He admits....that he doesn't have a clue what NAN should smell like...or any of the other nitrites. He just doesn't know.

I hardly think "spleens" have much to do with knowing the odor of NAN. Such distraction reveals his deliberate attempts to confuse, denigrate and grind the same old ax.

The Professor said on Wed, 1 Jun 2022 at 15:30...

Not at all. You have a swollen spleen. It interferes with your metabolizing Alkyl nitrites. As a result, anything stronger than diluted N- Amyl nitrite brings your body to cardio-pulmonary crisis

That informs EVERYTHING you do, think and days about Alkyl nitrites.

If only there were an IGNORE the BS button!!!

The Professor said on Thu, 2 Jun 2022 at 18:34...

You've been pressing the ignore Basic Science button for years, and you are right back where you started.

Sure, it's after running away from or being banned by all the other forums out there, but here you are, another nuisance to deal with

The Professor said on Mon, 20 Jun 2022 at 16:25...

readers that are new to this forum probably haven't experienced the lying, deceitful, willful ignorance that is Ken (aka anonymous, aka popperass, aka madeplentypoppers, aka NitriteSpecialist aka PopperExpert, aka PopperMaker, aka kenjoneslee, aka John Mulligan, etc.

He'll fight his wrong ideas to the ground, hasn't attained control of this reaction 13 years, and is wasting everyone's time.

another big yawn with no new content, a dollop of lies, with a dash of baloney
