Recently, I added vegetable cooking oil to IPN, about 50% by volume and I swirled the contents until fully mixed with no visible layering.
I took one whiff while watching porn and the effects were somewhat delayed but much longer lasting and intense ending with a sudden warmth.

Studies from the 80s say vegetable oil was present in poppers, presumably to lesson volatility, but perhaps also to improve effects.

So we may be getting to the bottom of how to make really good poppers.

Why am I giving out all this info? Because I don't want to make OTC poppers myself and I am hoping someone will finally make the kind the Joe Miller was making. Poppers of consistent high quality.

The chemists from 1914 said the sodium nitrite method was excellent for research work, BUT not for scaling up for mass quantities. But, the quality of the alcohol is imperative nonetheless. We all know wines oxidize and turn to vinegar. Alcohols oxidize and turn into acids, ketones and aldehydes, none of which are going to make a better popper, regardless of the method of synthesis.

I am NOT suggesting that IPN makes the best popper. I doubt that it does, But the ingredients are much easier and cheaper to obtain. Chemical companies have significant up charges for other alcohols. For example, it will cost me 75 USD to obtain 100 mls one pentanol from Sigma Aldrich, delivered price with all the shipping/mark ups. It costs far less to buy IPA from Walmart.

@Jimmy: you may get this effect using a blend of two types of alcohol. Propyl (or iso- propyl) will give you the strong pulse you mentioned, Butyl (or iso-butyl) will give you the long lasting smoother feeling. Remember though that your body can only process so much at a time, so you're sacrificing part of one feeling for the other. It's always a trade off.

Actually, the break through knowledge is just common sense. The reason most poppers suck today are because they don't use high quality reagents and a proven way to make mass quantities of poppers. It doesn't matter what type of nitrite it is if it's full of impurities.

MCT oil is the very best; brings all of the hallucinatory effects to the forefront and never turns bad like alcohols do when they oxidize (I know that the research says that conditions for alcohol degradation don't exist inside a sealed and refrigerated bottle, but that research is marketing BS from those that want to keep poppers illegal

Whatever you're making it isn't Iso Propyl Nitrite.
1. There are no hallucinatry effects.
2. Vegetable oil does absolutely nothing.
3. Impurities have little detrimental effect.

Mr Jimmy. Vegetable oil does something. The purpose of vegetable oil is to act as a filter. The idea is the same as with cloth, which was first used with ampoules and then it was changed to fat which is in the liquid.

the effect of vegetable oil is to reduce the volatility (evaporation rate) of the nitrite. It does not filter or react with anything.

the patents that discuss Alkyl Nitrite stabilization make meniton of EPOXIDIZED vegetable oil, which is another thing entirely. Epoxidized linseed oil acts as an acid sink, and will neutralize acids that develop from decomposition. Raw triglycerides do NOT function as such
