There is a huge amount of variation possible when making poppers....ranging from bad effects to good effects.

I think it's imperative that the alcohol be factory sealed, fresh and pure and used fairly quickly if not stored under argon/nitrogen.

It's also important that the sodium nitrite be fresh and pure. If it isn't, it might help to heat it between 450 and 700C briefly, which might turn any nitrate back into nitrite.

If you have fresh and pure reagents...then

40 mls 31.45% HCl into cold 30 mls alcohol should work.

And then 22 to 24 grams SN into 36 mls DW.

Chill, use ice bath and slowly add the acid/alcohol to the SN solution on stir.

IPN always causes terrible side effects in me.

Butyl nitrite seems hard to make and will cause bad effects if it's not pure enough. BN should make a room smell distinctly like a freshly deodorized locker room. None of BN brews smelled like that...so clearly something was wrong with them.

Pentyl nitrite seems to cause the least bad effects, even when it's not pure.
