The local video theater where I cruise has some interesting fellows. More and more I am seeing guys who won't play with you unless you have some 'ice' on you. I was sucking a guy off and he asked me if I was planning on smoking anything that night. I told him that my only vice was porn, poppers and penis. He pulled up his pants and walked out of the video preview room. This isn't the first time that has happened to me. Is poppers a road to meth??? I ask this because I walked by a room and saw the same guy naked with another guy about to have sex. The door was open as if to invite someone else to play. The room was filled with smoke and I got a tiny wiff. I felt all tingly and horny in a few seconds. I mean different than regular horny. A little angel on my shoulder seemed to warn me to not enter that room or my life would change and not really in a good way. For the first time in my life I felt tempted to breath in that smoke and let go but I knew that I had to get out of there. I talked to the clerk about it and he told me more and more he is seeing guys smoke meth. The cleaning guy finds there debris in the rooms. I mean if meth is that powerful in relationship to sex. I don't want to try it. And I mean ever. Discuss.

Anything can be a gateway really. Stress is a gateway to alcoholism, alcoholism is a gateway to other things. Maybe you should ask what drives you to want to have oral sex with strangers - that is the primary gateway, as these sorts of environments are full of risks of the kind you describe. You also risk being robbed, getting an STD, assaulted etc. "A little angel on my shoulder"...keep that angel in good health.

Novels could be a gateway of course. Subversive literature and all that! Read a racy novel (or one of those cool gay pulp fiction paperbacks) and it may lead to watching porn, porn may lead you to a seedy motel, and so on. The whole concept of "gateway" is flawed; the reason why people get messed up is as complex as the individual's circumstances. Porn is addictive for some, not for others. Social problems (created by inequality, racism, political factors, family breakdown etc) are the main autobahn and there are many traveling that road right now. I cannot see an obscure aphrodisiac, which is what poppers basically are, in the same league! Poppers as whipping boy...yes, I see that...but as a "gateway"...nope.
