DIY is the ultimate answer IMO.
You don't have to be a qualified chemist, just have some common sense about handling the raw ingredients then buy some basic kit:
a couple of glass beakers, separating funnel/stand/clamp, magnetic stirrer (if you're serious) then the the raw ingredients; hydrochloric acid, butyl/isobutyl/amyl alcohol etc (your choice) bicarb, sodium nitrite, a dessicant, molecular seives.
Might sound complicated but it isn't really and there is plenty of info out there (even in Youtube) if you want to give it a go.
