OK that is a video off the end of any pier I have been on, but I did try the popper mask I saw on a European site. (Look under inhalers)

I also wanted to check of the quality of poppers from a European supplier.
The poppers turned out to be knockoff Rush, low grade, however the Push Extra was kick ass strong.
As for the mask, the poppers melted the plastic and mask itself I had to modify with duct tape to cover the large holes on either side. Definitely not worth it.
But I am curious about best techniques for sniffing outside of gas masks.

Anytime you put your liquid onto a rag or cotton ball or gas mask or
anything like that you are wasting it. I've tried straws and glass tubes
but what I found best is the bottom part of a plastic pen. All you have to do is to cut one end to the size slightly smaller than the opening of the
bottle. Then one end up the nose and the other just at top of bottle and use your index finger to regulate the vapor. And as you use up the liquid you insert the pen deeper into the bottle. Its tricky at first but as with everything practice makes perfect. It will knock you on your ass with the right product. Oh and be very very careful not to snort up the liquid.

Have used the full rubber hood with protruding nose tubes. As there are no other holes you have to use your poppers by feel! You have the sensory deprivation as well. Have also cut off the bottom 3cm of tubes and inserted into nostrils. They are about 1cm or more diam so firm fit. You can insert soaked cotton wool etc also.No nose burn!

If a person is 'killed with poppers' the death certificate in all domains would read 1) Global hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy 1a) Through excessive inhalation of volatile alkyl nitrites. (Hypoxia is when your lips and finger / toes go blue as your red blood cells loose the ability to carry sufficient oxygen).

On hindsight, I tend to agree. Amyl nitrite use to be a prescription only drug decades ago. The average Joe in the street doesn’t know about the formula changes over the years and still calls it 'amyl'. A death certificate would show more detail too, not just 'Amyl Nitrite poisoning'.
Cases of death directly through poppers are practically unheard of even with a mask on.

@ Knottyfellow, Not sure if this post is from the US or UK but here in the UK i was using poppers (amyl) in 1984 so yes it has been around for 30+ years. This is a quote from wikipedia:- "Poppers were part of club culture from the 1970s disco scene to the 1980s, and the 1990s rave scene made their use popular". So as you can see they have more than likely been around for 40+ years. And seeing as the disco scene was very popular in the US in the 70's you can bet that they were using poppers as well.

I have converted a dust mask/respirator by covering the input holes and fixing a tube there ( takes some ingenuity!) and wear this when I want a good hit without smelling the bottle top and the risk of burns. I used a solution that i found on the net that has worked well. Used a cpap mask/hose, glass baby food jar with lid and a cotton ball. make a hole in the lid that will accept the end of the hose and add a few other small holes to allow the desired amount of air to flow into the jar. If you create too many holes as i did, they can be covered with electrical tape.

I recently bought some nitrite from a French dealer which was advertised as "Pentyl Nitrite" and is apparently the same as Amyl Nitrite.
In my naivity, I assumed Amyl was "the ultimate" and very definitely going to be better than the disgusting shite that we are nannied into buying here in the UK (Isopropyl).
I laugh inwardly as I confess that I took the tiniest of sniffs from my first bottle of "the ultimate" expecting a frenzy of sexual euphoria just like the old days. The hit was a bit better than UK nanny shite, lasted longer, smelt nicer, didn't give me an occular migraine and didn't make me feel crap after it wore off.
BUT I was left feeling that it wasn't the same as the old 1980s Isobutyl, and now you have confirmed this!
So what do I do - short of synthesizing my own? ...and believe me I am VERY tempted to do this!

Yes, I too have tried the French Amyl / Pentyl formula poppers and have been disappointed every time.
It was only the Iso Butyl poppers that gave you that strong pulse in the head, followed by rapid heartbeat and a smooth warm long lasting rush.
The after-effects were minimal.
I started huffing in 1994, long before the Butyl ban in 2007 so I think I know what I'm talking about.
I would forget about synthesizing your own for safety reasons.
The only hope now is the ban is reversed one day.

Not using any mask whatsoever in combination with poppers is the best way, Rubberist. As Etc pointed out: it is dangerous. Poppers should be used in moderation only. Those that seek some elusive state with reckless abandon should think twice! The same goes for ethyl nitrite, and combining poppers with other things (especially erection enhancement pills) is equally mad. The proposed poppers ban in Australia is centered around these perils. I had a dom top simply use a plastic grocery bag over my head with small air hole. I was restrained in a sling. I was able to breath with the bag going in and out but barely. Had to focus on my breath. He would hold the hole shut for a minute to play with my breath and make me want to gasp for air. While I can personally appreciate the need for caution and understand that everyone here is looking to help, I have found a solution to this that is so simple...

I too, was looking for a way to take my poppers us another step further (my use of them in moderation has lasted many years and is now resulting in a severely diminished effect when I use them). I use a $9 dust filter mask from Amazon with the two round replacement dust filter cartridges. I simply place a few drops of poppers onto each of the filters, let them soak in for a moment and then breathe through the mask. Incredible results and usually a massive headache after.

So how is my usage safe? Simple... I do not use the straps on my head. I simply use my free hand (haha) to hold the mask firmly to my face. If I should pass out (never have yet but have gotten so high that I couldnt think straight) then the mask would just fall off my face and I would breathe fresh air.

I should also mention that I do have limits and do not exceed them. I only use this technique after using poppers traditionally for a few minutes and then keep a constant watch on my fingernails to look for the blue color that can be the first symptom of methaemoglobinaemia. If I see that, I stop immediately.

The moral of this story is that there IS a safe way to do this.

I must be older than all of you. I was using poppers in the late 60's and ever since.
We used to have a small screw-on top that fit the normal poppers bottle that had a pull-up top that let you inhale whatever amount of vapor you wanted. It was called a "Poopper-topper" and was sold in any sex or head shop. It kept the liquid inside the bottle and prevented spills if the bottle tipped or fell. They were great but seemed to have been banned durig the beginning of the AIDS crisis when some thought poppers were the cause of AIDS. Not true, but still not back on the market.

Covid 19 has been great for using Poppers in public.
